						In this Master's, you'll be taught the integrate interplay between design and development. You'll become a flexible leader who knows how to get people involved and who understands that plans need to be adjusted to deal with unforeseen bumps along the way. The programme takes corporate social responsibility as its starting point: how organisations can operate efficiently while never losing sight of the people involved. Customers, personnel, local residents, related governmental organisations, but also the organisation's future plans and current reputation (i.e. risk management) are all part of that. Corporate social responsibility is a moral and ethical issue, but also a strategic one of managing reputational risks and creating commitment among employees and investors. The specialisation builds on the tradition of socio-technical system design that aims to jointly optimise both the social and the technical aspects of an organisation. You'll explore the possibilities of organisational development and the barriers that may arise. Put simply, you'll learn not just what needs to be changed, but also how this can best be done.

This specialisation offers the unique combination of the design and the development of organisations. Besides addressing structural and economic factors, this specialisation also pays attention to social practices and change processes in organisations. We offer theory-and-action based learning: you'll gain advisory skills and with a strong understanding of research methodology, you'll learn to systematically analyse organisational problems, typically in close cooperation with an organisation.

opbouwThe following core courses are offered: Organisations and Society, exploring the basic aspects for designing strategies of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for the organisation; Intervention in Organisations which offers a general model of intervention in Organisations; Organisation Design which addresses how organising work implies the design of organisational infrastructure; and Organisational Change which explores the possibilities of deliberately changing and developing organisations.

The objective of the Organisational & Development programme is to train students to combine a fundamental research perspective on the meaning and role of work organisation with a more practical outlook on how to actually design and develop organisations in a way that increases their chances of success through reorganisation of work processes. The combination of stablility and flexibility within organisations is presented, overlooking the role of markets, cooperation networks and society.

The employees in the organisation are the central starting point and this suits me well. The specialisation focuses on interventions in the structure of organisations. The position of organisations in society is also an integral focus of the programme. The small-scale educational environment and the contact between teachers and students is something I really appreciate.
