profiel Business Economics (BE)

What is the best way to run an organization? In the profile Business Economics, you learn to understand decision-making within an organization from an economic point of view.

The Business Economics profile offers a high-quality practical and theoretical academic foundation for any profession within the field. The focus is on core subjects from Business Economics: finance, accounting, marketing, operations and logistics and human resource management. In addition, you will get a firm base in general economic theory. Via this combination of Business and Economics courses, you learn to view the functioning of organizations from an analytic, microeconomic as well as a macro- and international economic point of view. You also receive ample training in mathematics, statistics, applied econometrics, and research skills in order to be able to do individual academic research in Business Economics. In addition, you develop your academic writing skills by writing several theoretical and empirical papers and, finally, the Bachelor's thesis.

profiel Economics (ECO)

Are you interested in economic and social problems? Then the Economics profile may be the perfect choice for you.

Economists develop models to obtain an understanding of economic phenomena. They look at economic data, try to make sense of it and explain its implications. Economics is a way of looking at the world. As such, the number of applications is almost limitless. Therefore, in this profile, a wide range of topics is addressed, like banking, fiscal and monetary policy issues, the origins of economic growth, decisions made by consumers on markets, and strategic behavior and competition between firms on markets. The Economics profile offers a high-quality practical and theoretical foundation for any profession in this field. The focus on both theory and practice prepares you for professional life. You will learn about general economic theory and take core courses in both Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. A crucial part of the curriculum is devoted to studying economic problems with statistical data from real life. When you are writing your Bachelor's thesis, you will use this skill.

profiel Economic Development and Globalization (ED&G)

How is economic development initiated and maintained? Which threats and opportunities arise as a result of economic globalization?

If you are interested in these types of questions, this profile is the perfect fit for you. In the last decades, millions of people have been lifted out of poverty in many developing countries. Development Economics deals with the theories, policies and patterns underlying this process. It also seeks to analyze why some regions of the world have managed to develop successfully, while other regions are struggling. At the same time, the world has become increasingly integrated by international trade and capital flows. This has major consequences for e.g. labor markets, internationalization decisions of firms and environmental sustainability, but also for the determinants of international capital flows, exchange rates and financial crises. The ED&G profile gives you the tools to understand the process of economic development and globalization. The core of the profile consists of courses in both Development Economics and International Economics. In your Bachelor's thesis, you will investigate a problem related to one of these topics.

If you have earned fewer than 45 ECTS and are issued a negative result, you will not be allowed to continue with your degree programme.
You will receive preliminary study advice in December to make sure that you know where you stand. Please contact your study advisor as soon as possible if you have any questions about the BSA system.
N.B. Some degree programmes use a tutoring system; please check with your study advisor.

study guidance
As a student, you are expected to work independently, but of course, the faculty will help you do so. Together with other first-years, you will participate in a mentor group. The mentor, a senior student, will help you learn the ins and outs of the faculty. In addition, you will discuss your study progress with your tutor (a lecturer-supervisor) at regular intervals. The study advisers are available to help you with specific study problems.
During the first year, your mentor group, called Study Performance and Academic Attitudes (SPAA) group, will meet on a regular basis, supervised by your student-mentor. Assignments and discussions will help you gain insight into your own way of studying and how to develop effective study skills. You will follow most tutorials with the same group. This small-scale approach enhances contact between students and between students and lecturers. You will also have a lecturer-tutor, whom you will meet individually at the start of your studies and after the first two exam periods. This way you receive personal and regular feedback on your study progress. Successful studying depends on many different factors, so it is understandable that you may need to consult an impartial expert with whom you can discuss your study progress and personal circumstances.. The faculty's study advisors are available to help you. Obviously, everything discussed with the study advisor remains confidential.
